The Stockholm cemetery conceived by Asplund and Lewerentz—chapels set in pine woods and hills, inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage in 1994. Within a shared plan, Asplund designed the Woodland Chapel, Lewerentz the Resurrection Chapel, and Asplund the late crematorium. Headstones stay modest so the eye opens to greenery and sky. Walking the grounds is the sequence.

Highlights

  • From the gate to the hill — Where do trees and lawn reveal or hide the buildings?
  • Woodland Chapel — How do light and ceiling height change as you enter from the trees?
